The Health Ministry in Gaza has strongly condemned Israel’s abduction of a nurse in the strip, stressing that the action constitutes “a flagrant violation” of international and humanitarian laws.

Tasneem Marwan al-Hems, 24, was abducted by a special unit of the Israeli forces on Thursday while she was heading to work at a medical facility in the southern city of Khan Yunis.

Tasneem’s father, Dr. Marwan al-Hems, the director of Gaza’s field hospitals, was himself abducted by the Israeli forces two months ago and has since been held in Israeli prisons.

The Health Ministry in Gaza held the Israeli forces full responsible for Tasneem’s safety, calling for the disclosure of her fate.

The ministry also urged the international community to intervene urgently to put an end to Israel’s ongoing violations against health workers and their families.

The Palestinian Center for the Missing and Forcibly Disappeared also condemned the abduction and called for the immediate release of Tasneem and her father.

The center warned that she could be subjected to torture or used as a means of pressure and blackmail against her father.

Israel has launched a genocidal war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, after Palestinian resistance fighters waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the Zionist entity in response to the regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

The Israeli regime’s bloody onslaught on the besieged strip has so far killed more than 66,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 1,700 healthcare workers have been killed. Munir al-Bursh, Director General of the Ministry, said in late September that 1,723 health workers were killed and that 38 hospitals had been targeted since the war’s start.

Meanwhile, the Palestine Center for Prisoners' Studies announced in late September that Israeli forces have detained more than 360 medical personnel in Gaza since the start of the war, with four reported dead in custody from torture and medical neglect.

The group added that, as of late September, the Israel Prison Service was still holding around 3,500 detainees from Gaza, including doctors, paramedics, and hospital administrators.
